BARBOZA

The goal of this project was to create an Art Deco inspired cocktail bar and theater space. Lajeunesse, his partner Mike Meckling, and friend and architect, Jeff Babienko (of Barc) had a great time doing just that.

Keeping the three on their toes, the project was chock-full of significant engineering challenges and structural considerations. Particularly unique was the incredible noise issues: How do you build a small performance space directly below a large concert venue? How would the sound be separated? With the help of structural and acoustic engineers, the team came to a solution: a floating ceiling, suspended by thousands of springs, and layered with soundboards, air gaps and insulated walls.

Ultimately, they were successful in making the room self-contained and sound proof, while also creating an aesthetically beautiful and elegant space.
